Sinds The Black Dog (versie 2.0) tot de Schotse Soma Records familie behoort, is het trio behoorlijk productief. Waarom versie 2.0? Zoals de meeste elektronica/technoliefhebbers wel weten was The Black Dog oorspronkelijk een trio bestaande uit Ken Downie, Ed Handley en Andy Turner. Echter, Handley en Turner stapten op een gegeven moment uit The Black Dog om zich te richten op hun nog altijd legendarische Plaid project. Ken Downie heeft The Black Dog vervolgens doorgestart met Martin Dust en Richard Dust van Dust Science Recordings. Na het ambient werkstuk Music For Real Airports (knipoog naar Brian Eno's Music For Airports) is Liber Dogma een onvervalste technoplaat geworden, met hier en daar
wat ruimte voor elektronica/breakbeats. Een album waarop die onvervalste touch van The Black Dog uiteraard niet ontbreekt. Het is inmiddels alweer de vijfde langspeler voor Soma Records sinds 2008, maar aan kwaliteit is nog altijd geen gebrek. The Black Dog over dit nieuwe werkstuk: “this album is about surrendering to hypnotic, physical music played loud in big, dark rooms. We always wanted to make an album that reflects the kind of set we play live, and that's what we've done with Liber Dogma. It’s all about red lights, a smoke machine, a single strobe, a Funktion One soundsystem... and The Black Dog. We've played all over the world and we've brought that vibe back to our lab. Forget the fancy lighting, the indoor scarves, the hair do's and the hair don'ts; fuck all of that. Music is about losing yourself and having a good time with friends and that's what this album will help you do." Eén ding is zeker, The Black Dog weet zich nog altijd te onderscheiden binnen de overvolle vijver van elektronische muziek. Hun muziek verwijst nog altijd naar ambient, maar ook naar industrieel klinkende techno met een regelmatige flirt naar Detroit. Dit is het type techno en elektronica waarvan we zelden genoeg zullen krijgen.
